Regular maintenance is required for the use of your hot tub to remain an enjoyable experience. The more diligent you are in the care of your spa, the longer it will last. Following delivery and installation, there are a few things you’ll need to do before you can fully enjoy your backyard oasis. This process is also necessary upon refilling your hot tub every 180 days, and after winterization.
Utilize a pre-filter to fill the hot tub with water. This gets rid of many of the minerals and makes it easier to adjust the balance of the water later. It will also help with water hardness that is prevalent in our area.
NOTE: If you have a water softener that you can control, we find that the perfect mix for our area is 50% hard and 50% softened water in your spa.
During the filling process, add a sequestering agent (follow the instructions on the product label) to get rid of remaining minerals suspended in the water. Do not do anything else for 12 hours.
Once 12 hours have passed, test the levels in the water. Test strips are available in your start-up kit. Levels should be the following (adjust the water to obtain these levels by following the instructions on the chemical bottles):
NOTE: Adjusting the Alkalinity first will help to stabilize pH levels. Retesting may be required during this process.
Once the pH and Alkalinity are balanced, add 2 tbsp. of Lithium chlorinating granules per 500 gallons when you first start up the spa in order to sanitize the water.
NOTE: Do not enter the hot tub if the chlorine levels are above 5 PPM.
Keeping your spa in peak performance goes beyond that initial start-up process. You’ll need to perform regular maintenance to keep the water balanced and prolong the life of your spa.
Use test strips to check the balance of the water and adjust with chemicals as needed.
Add 1 capful of Lithium Oxidizer Shock.
For every 250 gallons of water, add 2 tbsp. of Lithium Oxidizer Shock.
Test and adjust the sanitation levels of the water as needed.
For foggy water, add 1 tbsp. of Lithium chlorinating granules.
Soak your filter elements (all except the ECO PUR mineral element — simply rinse with water) in Filter Cleaner overnight, then rinse with water and reinstall.
Clean the entire spa by draining the water and refilling using the start-up process above. Be sure to replace your ECO PUR mineral element.
